Youth Assistant
(1 Existing Part-Time Position – 12 - 18 hours/week)

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation Services and the Youth Programmer, the Youth Centre Assistants will work as a team and be responsible for the controlled entry access; supervision, guidance and direction of the youth membership; and safe, smooth operation of the Youth Centre and its schedule. Contributing to the creation, implementation and evaluation of a variety of recreation programs for youth. All duties must be performed in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Municipal policies, procedures and practices.
Education and Training:
- High school diploma and post-secondary education in recreation and leisure services, sport administration, child and youth worker, social studies or equivalent;
- Coaching experience in sport and certifications through NCCP or other sport specific accreditation including Hi Five, considered an asset;
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C certification required.
- One (1) year of previous related job experience working with youth 12 to 17 years of age;
- Experience facilitating and delivering various recreation programs, such as: sports programs, drama/crafts and musical programs, youth events and tournaments considered an asset;
- Experience with committees considered an asset;
- Strong social media skills and a proven record of success in promoting youth activities;
- Strong interpersonal and effective written and verbal communication skills are required;
- Effective problem solving and conflict management skills are required;
- Ability to lead, work with and contribute positively to a service oriented team.
- General knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- A current, acceptable Criminal Reference Record – Vulnerable Sector;
- Valid Ontario driver’s license in good standing and ability to provide an acceptable driver’s abstract;
- Ability to work afternoons and weekends when the Youth Centre is open or for special events.
Rate of Pay Range: $31.20 - $36.50 per hour
