Facility Operator - Wasaga Stars Arena
(Temporary Full Time – 1 Existing Position)

The Town of Wasaga Beach is seeking temporary full-time Facility Operator for the Wasaga Stars Arena, for a 2-to-3-month contract to cover for operator leave of absence. 
The successful candidate will be required to learn the operations of the Wasaga Stars Arena, and Wasaga Beach Public Library,  and other municipally owned facilities as well as having a general knowledge of other facility cleaning, ice maintenance, general repairs and building maintenance.
The Wasaga Stars Arena is a seven day a week operation with hours of operation 7 am to 12 midnight.  The successful candidate will be required to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays, and have the ability to work overtime on short notice.  Facility staff at the Wasaga Stars Arena work a nine (9) hour schedule and rotate weekends off.   The successful candidate must have the ability to work both independently in the arena (cold side), facilities (warm side) and as a facilities team member to support all Town facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ontario Secondary School diploma or equivalent;
  • Requires proof of an unrestricted valid class “G2” Ontario Drivers License (minimum);
  • Previous experience, and a proven ability, to perform ice maintenance duties, a Basic Refrigeration certificate would be an asset;
  • Previous experience with facility maintenance, repairs and janitorial duties;
  • Physically able to perform all duties of this physically active position including heavy lifting and indoor as well as outdoor work in all conditions;
  • Good understanding of Safe Operating Procedures for power tools and associated facility maintenance equipment;
  • Good organizational and decision making skills;
  • Standard First Aid certification, CPR, Defibrillator and WHIMIS training is also a benefit;
  • Ability to provide a current, acceptable Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector) if hired;
  • A proven ability to deal with the public and other staff in a courteous and efficient manner;
  • The candidate must have the ability to work both independently and as a team member;
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including: days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays and overtime on short notice as required.
Hourly rate - $28.13 (40 hours per week) as per Schedule ‘A’ of the CUPE Collective Agreement.
