Position Purpose:

As a volunteer firefighter serving the Town, and under the supervision of career officers or designated firefighters, you will be responsible for suppressing fires; performing rescue work; administering emergency medical aid; assisting with fire prevention activities; and operating and maintaining firefighting apparatus and equipment, including maintenance of the fire stations. Volunteer Firefighters also participate in local public education events, attend regular scheduled training sessions, and contribute to enhance the safety and quality of life of the people who live, work and play in the Town of Wasaga Beach.

Qualifications and Requirements: Successful candidates must:

  • Reside in close proximity to Wasaga Beach. Each applicant will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be legally entitled to work for any employer in Canada
  • Possess a Grade 12 diploma
  • Possess a valid First Aid and CPR certification
  • Possess NFPA 1001- Firefighter I & II certifications
  • Possess NFPA 1072- Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations certifications
  • Consideration will be made for applicants who are finishing courses and are awaiting results
  • Have access to a reliable vehicle and possess a valid Ontario DZ driver’s license, and provide a recent copy of a Ministry of Transportation driver’s abstract that demonstrates safe driving behaviour
    • Applicants must have no more than three (3) demerit points
  • Provide a current satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Screening Check (prior to being offered a position)
  • Applicants will be required to submit a valid York University Firefighter Fitness assessment (including medical and swim test) or alternate valid certification within 90 days of being offered a position. The costs associated with the testing will be borne by the candidate.
Information Sessions:
Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment information sessions will be held at Station 1 (966 River Road West, Wasaga Beach) starting at 7pm on Monday August 12th and Monday August 26th. The sessions will be the same; therefore there is no need to attend both dates.
